Gustav basically has just been an inconvenience for us in Texas. So far just cloudy skies, but with a forecast of rain and 40+ mph winds starting this afternoon. We will be fine.
Our frustrations have been to evacuate or not to evacuate. Choosing not to evacuate cost us a 1 night hotel room rate for cancelling. But we probably would have spent more than that in gas trying to get there. Everyone is home from work, which means no pay. So we're waiting for the mandatory evacuation to be lifted. I was to start teaching Tuesday but now the first day of class will be Friday.
We had all started packing to evacuate, but now have the pleasure of unpacking and putting it all back up. Not to mention all the plants (lots & lots of plants) and patio furniture that Amber and I carried off the patio to the garage. Our backs are still hollering at us for what we put them through! Making sure we had food and supplies just in case. Also, right in the middle of all these preparations my dishwasher died. Can I blame that on Gustav too?
Kayla's boyfriend Greg had given her a college graduation gift of a cruise out of Galveston. Do I even have to say when it was scheduled to leave? Today of course. Carnival Cruise Lines kept them believing it would still be a go until yesterday afternoon when they cancelled the cruise. They were in Baytown (just getting Kayla to Baytown is a story in itself) with all bags packed and ready to get on the ship. What a let down. After some frustration they have rescheduled to go in October. The kicker was Greg was planning to propose to Kayla during the cruise.
So with the ring in his pocket his plans went with the wind, literally! Last night, in a spur of the moment decision, Greg took Kayla to a park in Baytown and popped the question. She said yes and everyone is happy. So does that mean now I'm pregnant with a son-in-law? The due date for my son-in-law to arrive in our family is in March 2009. So of all the things that Gustav blew in, he blew in a new member of our family. Who knew the son I never had would blow in with a gust of wind!
Welcome to the family Greg!
